Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Packaging Engineer to join our Packaging Engineering team. This role provides technical expertise and serves as an independent contributor on cross-functional teams responsible for the design, development, validation, and implementation of packaging components, systems, processes, and equipment supporting medical device products.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in packaging development, package testing, process validation, manufacturing support, and regulatory compliance while working alongside experienced Packaging Engineering professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Development
- Design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions for new product launches and existing products throughout all stages of product development.
- Support packaging activities for clinical trials, limited market releases, global launches, lifecycle management, and operational initiatives.
- Participate as a key contributor on cross-functional teams supporting product development from concept through commercialization.
- Deliver robust, cost-effective, and compliant packaging solutions that meet evolving customer and business needs. Validation & Testing
- Develop and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) for packaging and manufacturing process validations.
- Create package testing plans, execute testing activities, analyze results, and provide technical recommendations.
- Validate packaging components, packaging equipment, and packaging manufacturing processes.
- Coordinate physical testing activities to ensure package integrity throughout manufacturing, distribution, and end-user environments. Manufacturing & Operational Support
- Apply industry standards and regulatory requirements, including ISO 11607, to package design, equipment qualifications, and process validations.
- Support packaging equipment specification, sourcing, installation, and qualification activities.
- Identify and participate in operational projects, including cost improvement initiatives, supplier qualifications, and product transfers.
- Troubleshoot packaging-related manufacturing and field issues and support root cause investigations.
- Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives. Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality system requirements, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Promote and uphold the highest standards of ethics, quality, professionalism, and compliance.
Qualifications
Education
Minimum Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent University degree required; focused degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant professional work experience
- Engineering experience, including internships, co-op assignments, or entry-level engineering roles.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with: ASTM and ISTA package testing standards, ISO 11607-1 and ISO 11607-2, ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 820
- Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and packaging equipment.
- Experience supporting verification, validation, and continuous improvement activities.
